History of Marx

Louis Marx & Co. was founded in 1919 by Louis and David Marx and first produced trains in 1938. Marx was a low-priced brand intended to appeal to those who couldn’t afford the more expensive Lionel and American Flyer trains. Marx continued to produce tinplate trains into the 1960’s, long after its competitors had converted to plastic and die cast. The Marx company was sold to Quaker Oats in 1972, and production continued until 1975. Today, reproductions of the Marx line are made by Marx Trains using the trademarks of the original company.
