Great American Train Show in Puyallup, Wash.: November 2000

I originally posted these pictures on my old website on February 9, 2008. I have rescanned them and added some that I hadn’t included before.

These pictures were taken at the Great American Train Show at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, Washington, on November 18-19, 2000. The Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club’s HO-scale layout was at this show, but I didn’t take any pictures of it. If I’d known it was the last time I would see it before the club sold it, I would have taken pictures of it. Instead, I just took pictures of some of the other layouts and displays.

01 Lego Display at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

The Pacific Northwest Lego Train Club had an impressive display, including Lego models of famous buildings and a HUGE Lego suspension bridge. (Let the neon green cables catch your eye.)

02 Lego Display at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

A closeup of some of the Lego models of famous buildings, including the Space Needle, the Chrysler Building, the TransAmerica Pyramid, the Empire State Building and the Sears Tower. (they aren't all to the same scale). Also, look at the long Lego train crossing the suspension bridge.

03 Lego Display at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

It doesn't have much to do with trains, but I thought this Lego model of an Imperial shuttle from Return of the Jedi was pretty cool.

04 Lionel Layout at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

I think this O27 Lionel train is on the O-scale modular layout operated by the 4th Division of the Pacific Northwest Region of the National Model Railroad Association, though since this is the only picture I have, I'm not entirely sure.

05 Kitsap Live Steamers at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

This Large Scale model of Rio Grande Southern "Galloping Goose" #2 was displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers.

06 Kitsap Live Steamers at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

Live steam D&M RR Shay #1 was displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers.

07 Kitsap Live Steamers at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

Live steam Pennmill Lumber Heisler #4 (with lots of brass highlights!) was displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers.

08 Kitsap Live Steamers at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

This Large-scale model of BNSF Dash 9-44CW #2000 was displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers. The road number is not prototypically correct; I assume it represents the year the model was built, which would mean it was brand new here.

09 Kitsap Live Steamers at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

Live steam Great Northern 2-8-2 Mikado #2424 was displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had previously photographed this locomotive two years earlier at the Pacific Northwest Live Steamers in Mollala, Oregon.

10 Mt Rainier N-Scale Layout at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

These modern Montana Rail Link locomotives were pulling a freight train on the Mt. Rainier N-Scale layout. Notice the large military display in the background.

11 Mt Rainier N-Scale Layout at GATS in Puyallup, Washington in November 2000

Here is a Great Northern streamlined passenger train on the Mt. Rainier N-Scale layout. Notice the timber snowshed on the upper line.
