Shady Dell Pacific Railroad: 1998

I originally posted some of these pictures on my old website on February 9, 2008. I have rescanned them and, for completion, also included some pictures my dad took during the same visit.

The Shady Dell Pacific Railroad is a 1-1/2":1' scale outdoor model railroad located in Molalla, Oregon and operated by the Pacific Northwest Live Steamers. My family has been to Shady Dell a number of times over the years. These pictures were taken during a visit in the summer of 1998, probably in July. I took most of them, but I have also included some that my dad took during the same visit.

Here is 4-6-0 #28 being backed onto the line with a train of streamlined passenger cars.

Here is 4-6-0 #28 blowing off a little steam before pulling into the station.

Most of the railroad equipment belongs to individual members, but this green and white SW1500 #1956 belongs to the Pacific Northwest Live Steamers club for use by all members.

Great Northern 2-8-2 Mikado #2424 is visiting from the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington.

Here is 4-6-0 #28 pulling passengers across a girder bridge.

Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 #4867 is sitting on one of the elevated tracks around the elevated turntable. These elevated tracks allow for easier unloading and loading of visiting equipment and allow easier access to the locomotives for maintenance.

Here is another picture of 4-6-0 #28. The elevated turntable is just out of the picture to the left.

The Pacific Northwest Live Steamers SW1500 #1956 has just crossed over the big truss bridge. My parents and sister are riding in the second car.

Here is Great Northern 2-8-2 Mikado #2424 passing the picnic area.

Here is a Milwaukee Road "Little Joe" electric locomotive crossing a deck girder bridge. This locomotive was also operating during our 1995 visit.

An old-time 4-4-0 American pulls a short train.

The 4-4-0 has just crossed the big truss bridge. It is clear that the sun is getting low in the sky.
