Displayed at the 100th Anniversary of Union Station in Portland, Oregon, on May 11, 1996,
Union Pacific #6936 is a DDA40X, built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in January 1971, one of 47 built, all for the Union Pacific, which at nearly 100 feet in length and with 6,600 horsepower are the largest and most powerful diesel locomotives ever built. #6936 is one of 13 that survive today, and the only one still owned by Union Pacific. It was transferred from freight to excursion service in May, 1985.
