Troutdale's first depot was built in 1882 by the Oregon Railway & Navigation Company. It was a two-story depot with living quarters upstairs for the agent and his family.

The original depot burned in 1907 and this depot was built to replace it.

The depot was originally on the north side of the tracks about two blocks from its current location.

Passenger service in Troutdale ended in 1965. In 1976 the Union Pacific Railroad sold the building to Troutdale for $1.

The depot was moved in March of 1976. It is maintained by the Troutdale Historical Society.
