TrainTime 2004: Part 3

These pictures were originally posted on the website of the Society of Model Engineers model railroad club at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The website is no longer online, so I am posting them here.

Marx Lehigh Valley #112 Diesel Locomotive

The Lehigh Valley #112 diesel was introduced in 1974, and is an example of the some of the last Marx production before the company shut down.

Marx #400 Locomotive

Marx #400 Locomotive with Plastic Tender

The Marx #400 locomotive was the first plastic Marx steam locomotive. It was introduced in the early 1950’s and it was made in both clockwork and electric versions. This is a clockwork version. It is shown with a plastic tender produced in 1968 or later, as the real Penn Central did not exist until then. The concept of a Penn Central steam locomotive is interesting, as the real Penn Central was created too late to ever have any.

Marx 3/16" Santa Fe E7 Diesels

Marx #1095 3/16-inch Santa Fe E7 Diesel Locomotives

In the mid-1950's, Marx began to produce a line of trains that would be more able to compete with the new detailed offerings by competitors Lionel and American Flyer. These new Marx trains were designed to approximately 3/16" scale, but ran on standard O-Gauge 3-Rail track (O-Gauge track is 1/4" scale). These Santa Fe E7 diesels are part of the Marx 3/16" line.

This NYC Wrecker Crane was fairly popular, due to its additional “play value.” #567 Side Dump Cars like this one made good companions to the wrecker.

Marx 6-inch Bangor & Aroostook Boxcar

This Bangor & Aroostook “State of Maine” boxcar dates from 1960 or 1962, and is slightly less rare than the B&O car.

Marx 6-inch Baltimore & Ohio Boxcar

This blue Baltimore & Ohio boxcar dates from 1954. Marx made B&O boxcars in several colors. Any shade of blue is moderately rare.

Marx 7" St. Paul & Pacific Baggage Car

Marx 7-inch St. Paul & Pacific Baggage Car

This 1860’s Era Baggage car was among the last 7” cars introduced, not appearing until 1959. A coach was also offered. St. Paul & Pacific was the only railroad offered.
