Logan & San Miguel Railroad Passenger Trains

I originally posted fictional information for my model railroad on my website when I started it in November 2002, but this information, which I wrote in August 2005, was not included. I am including it now for completion.

Passenger Trains on the Logan & San Miguel Railroad

Nevadan
Union Pacific – Logan & San Miguel – Western Pacific

Seattle – PortlandBend – Reno
LIMITED STATION STOPS

Route:
Union Pacific: Seattle, WA – Portland, OR
Logan & San Miguel: Portland, OR – Bend, OR
Western Pacific (on GN): Bend, OR – Bieber, CA
Western Pacific: Bieber, CA – Reno, NV

Connections:
Portland: City of Portland, Portland Rose (UP)
Santiam: City of Logan (LSM)
Bend: Deschutes River (LSM-UP)
Klamath Falls: Cascade (SP)
Reno: City of San Francisco (SP), California Zephyr (WP)
Through cars connect with Cascade and City of San Francisco.

Equipment:
Streamlined Union Pacific equipment. Southern Pacific through cars on Nevadan in Union Pacific colors. Western Pacific provides own motive power.

Through Car Operation:

Northbound

  • Southern Pacific coaches & sleepers received from westbound City of San Francisco at Reno, NV.
  • Southern Pacific cars except one coach and one sleeper transferred to northbound Cascade at Klamath Falls, OR.
  • Remaining Southern Pacific cars continue with Nevadan to Seattle, WA.

Southbound

  • Reverse of above procedure.

 

Lake Tahoe Limited
Union Pacific – Logan & San Miguel – Western Pacific

Seattle – PortlandBend – Reno
LIMITED STATION STOPS

Peak-season complement to Nevadan, following same route on different schedule.

Logan & San Miguel: Portland, OR – Bend, OR
Western Pacific (on GN): Bend, OR – Bieber, CA
Western Pacific: Bieber, CA – Reno, NV

Overnight train – mostly express freight. Express cars connect to other trains.

Equipment:
UP motive power, assorted express boxcars & reefers, streamlined UP baggage cars, heavyweight L&SM baggage cars, streamlined UP coach, diner & sleepers.

Operation:
Some head-end cars transfer to trains such as Nevadan, Deschutes River, Cascade & City of Portland.

 

Mountaineer

ALL STATION STOPS

Route:
Logan & San Miguel: Portland, OR – Bend, OR

Connections:
Santiam: City of Logan, Foster Mixed (LSM)

Equipment:
L&SM motive power and heavyweight & streamlined cars.
