I never posted pictures of these commissioned models on my old website, but I am including them now for completion.
This HO-Scale Rio Grande GP7, #5103, is an Atlas model that I was commissioned to work on in November 2007.
This factory-painted model had lost its original end handrails somewhere along the line.
Someone had replaced the original plastic end handrails with metal handrails made from parts for an Athearn “Blue Box” model.
Whoever installed the new end handrails could have done a better job, but since they were already there, I left them.
The new handrail stanchions had been installed in the holes for the coupler cut bars, leaving the original stanchion holes empty.
The frame of the Atlas GP7 is metal, making any changes to the area particularly difficult, and I didn’t want to have to touch up the orange paint.
I simply straightened out the handrails as much as I could, and painted them black. I also painted the vertical handrails at the steps white.
