Iron Goat Trail: Milepost 1720

Along the trail, replicas of Great Northern mileposts have been installed at the locations of the original mileposts. These mileposts represent the distance from St. Paul, Minnesota on the railroad’s original route over the summit of Stevens Pass.

Here, the first of the snowsheds began. Part of this snowshed was eventually rebuilt with a concrete back wall, and the wall remains, as shown in the pictures. By 1917, 6.7 of the 9 miles from Scenic to Tye (Wellington) was under snowshed protection.
