Southern Pacific GP40 #3059 by Atlas

I never posted pictures of these commissioned models on my old website, but I am including them now for completion.

This HO-Scale Southern Pacific GP40, #3059, is an Atlas model that I was commissioned to work on in November 2007.

This locomotive was missing part of its dynamic brake fan, which I had to replace.

I also installed a pilot plow and cleaned it up a bit.

The last picture shows it after I was finished with it, with the dynamic brake fan repaired and pilot plow installed.

  1. I just bought this red box Atlas model used, and it didn't include the factory detail packet with the plow. Did you source an original Atlas plow? I have a bunch of details west plows but I'm wondering if an Atlas plow would basically pop right in...

    1. I believe in this case I used a leftover plow from a Proto 2000 SD45 (the SD45 received a Details West 140 plow). The owner did supply two Atlas 890250 plows, which I used on two other Atlas GP40s. I think he got them direct from Atlas. To be honest, the Atlas plows didn't look that great, and had I been building them for myself, I would have gone with Details West plows. The Proto 2000 plow I used here looks much better than the Atlas plow. It's not a perfect match for the DRGW plow, but I don't think the Atlas plow was either.
