Southern Pacific U30C #7980 by Atlas

I never posted pictures of these commissioned models on my old website, but I am including them now for completion.

This HO-Scale Southern Pacific U30C, #7890, is an Atlas model that I was commissioned to work on in November 2007.

This was originally an undecorated model that someone had hand-painted in Southern Pacific colors.

While it didn’t look bad at first glance, the paint job had a number of problems.

First of all, whoever painted it did not do a very good job on the steps.

The handrails, fuel tank and trucks also needed to be painted.

Some of the other details, including the horn and exhaust stack, were also left unpainted.

I touched up some of the gray paint, and painted all of the details that had been left unpainted, including the trucks, fuel tank, horn, exhaust stack, brake wheel, and the handrails, with white on the vertical handrails at the steps.

I also touched up the gray paint at the steps, and in a few other spots where the coverage was particularly thin.
