LK&R Layout in Summer 2002

I originally posted these pictures of the LK&R layout on my old website on February 9, 2008. I have rescanned them.

These pictures of the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club’s HO-scale layout were taken in the summer of 2002 when the club was in its former home on Coal Creek Road west of Longview, Washington. Notice that the layout was designed to fit around the columns in this building.

At this point the layout's double track main line is operational, but none of the scenery has started and there aren't even any side tracks placed yet. Notice the cardboard fall protection, as there aren't even fascia boards yet.

This is the grain elevator end of the layout. The section in the foreground will be covered in a tunnel with the town at the end of the branch line on top.

This section is what will become the yard. At this point, only the double-track main line has been laid. Centerlines for the yard are being drawn and the turnouts are laid out to help, but it will be a while before they are permanently placed. The depot will end up in the space in the lower left.

This is one end of the (future) yard. The freight station building will end up in the industrial park at the other end of the layout.

Here is another view of the grain elevator area. Though the layout was designed to fit this space, it is clear that it is still a very tight fit.
